The essential divide within the court reporting world is freelance court reporters and court reporters working within the court room. Not to mention there are also many opportunities for using the skills of the court reporter in television captioning.

Not all freelance court reporter firms are created equal. Freelance court reporter firms vary in many different levels. They have different transcript formats, different pay cycles and rates, different types of law work.
