A Competitor With Class: Helen Ruiz Interpreting

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you'll know that I own a court reporting agency.

We provide court reporters for depositions. Last year I decided to expand my services by adding interpreters. It just makes sense. My clients are on the phone ordering court reporters. It's very convenient for them to just say, Send an interpreter too. So we do.

Anyway, there is another interpreting service in Orange County called Helen Ruiz Interpreting. Helen has been in the interpreting business for over 20 years and her style of doing business is something we all can look up to. Each year Helen throws a Christmas party for people in the legal industry -- lawyers, secretaries, vendors, and competitors. Yes, that's right! Helen throws a party so she can mix and mingle with everyone -- even her competition. To my amazement I got an invitation for her Christmas party last December '06. Didn't she know I offer a competitive service now? I don't know, I just felt like it would be a bit rude of me -- as her competition -- to show up and enjoy her food, her music, all on her dime. So I didn't attend the event.

I was fortunate enough yesterday to get to know Helen Ruiz of Helen Ruiz Interpreting a little better. We have a mutual client and we needed to discuss some business when this issue of the party came up. Apparently, Helen was hurt about my not coming and further, not even RSVP-ing. And she was right. So I apologized and I even sent flowers. That's when I realized what a classy lady Helen Ruiz is. Seriously. I think her generosity is only matched by her nice personality.

What a lesson to us all serving the legal community. I for one have taken note and I want to be more like her. So here goes: If you need a great interpreter company (other than us) I would recommend Helen Ruiz Interpreting located at 14730 Beach Blvd, Suite 224, La Mirada, CA 90638. Phone number is (714)522-7440. (I don't think she has a website site otherwise I would have provided a link too, sorry.)

Thanks, Helen.
