Profits vs. People
Recently I got this interesting questions posed to me by a reporter:
Hi there! I`m an independent freelance reporter in Washington, DC. I`m a realtimer, and a very good one. I had a question about something on your website. You state you have an ironclad guarantee that you will beat any other reporting agency`s offer, but you also indicate to reporters that you pay above industry-standard compensation. I would love to know how this is possible! Thanks!
Mary Ann Payonk, CRR, RDR, Washington, DC, www.maryannrdr.com
I was happy to respond to Mary in this way:
If someone comes from a perspective that Profit is King, then reconciling those two issues is incongruent. I don`t. Many times I will sacrifice short-run profits to reap long term business and/or to make sure the reporter is paid what she wants. So I guess in my world, People are King. I believe I`ve been blessed with this business by God and it`s my job to steward it the best way I know how which is with generosity and kindness.
Thanks for the inquiry. Great question!
