Laptops open doors for foster teens

TOA is proud to advocate for Laptops Open Doors . To me it’s a super simple idea with a big impact… what if foster teens kids got laptops?

(First, I had to imagine my life without a laptop and … I shudder the thought. Then thinking about my 17-year-old son Ryan who basically gets all his homework done, college research researched, etc etc done on his.)

Now imagine there are nearly 10,000 foster teens in L.A. County. That’s a lot. Without a laptop, normal high school is much harder. Research drags, teachers may not even know there’s no internet at home, and then grades suck. If some of those kids had access to a laptop all of a sudden:

  • Homework gets done
  • Group projects aren’t impossible
  • College/job apps don’t stall out for lack of tech

An amazing law firm called Albert & Mackenzie lead by Bruce Albert, Esq. has partnered with CASA of Los Angeles and Children’s Law Center of California . Bruce is donating 200 fully function laptops to kick things off. Woot woot! 😀

If you don’t have 200 laptops, that’s fine. If you’ve got a gently used machine collecting dust, this is a great way to put it back in action.

Or ... you can sponsor at different levels like:

  • $25 (accessories)
  • $50 (refurb/setup)
  • $100 (one laptop + charger)
  • $200 (laptops + accessories for the kids who need them most)

TOA is in because this is real-world impact kinda thing. A laptop can facilitate schoolwork, college prep, job applications, everyday life! Join Bruce and let’s open some laptop opportunities together!
