The Adventures of Depo Girl - Part 2
Jennie arrived 15 minutes early to her interview. She wasn’t sure how it would go but she was sure that she wanted to make a good impression. Black business suit – check. Minimal makeup – check. Hair in that tight business bun -- check. She was soon welcomed into a conference room by the receptionist and Mrs. Baker began the interview process:
Mrs. Baker: Hello, how are you?
Depo Girl: I'm doing fine – a little nervous, maybe. Nice place you have here.
Mrs. Baker: Oh, thank you. Now when did you pass your exam?
Depo Girl: Just two months ago.
Mrs. Baker: Are we the first firm you have interviewed with?
Depo Girl: Yes. I did call some others, but I only faxed resumes.
Mrs. Baker: Well, I just want to tell you a bit about our company. We've been around for a few years but I've reported for ten years prior to starting this company. So I understand both sides of the business. We have about 20-25 clients. Some schedule depositions regularly while others call us once in a while. Most of our clients are male attorneys, so it is very important to me that our female reporters be dressed in way that our attorneys are kept happy.
Depo Girl: How are we supposed to dress?
Mrs. Baker: I would prefer skirts that are above the knees, blouses that are not baggy and high heels.
The interview continued but Jennie lost interest in working there when she realized that what Mrs. Baker was really saying was that she wanted a girl that could look pretty for the attorneys. Still, Jennie was cordial and continued answering questions until the interview was done. They had her phone number if they needed her, but Jennie decided in her mind that she would not give this agency any priority whatsoever.
Once she got home she called another small agency in San Diego by the name of Jackson Reporters. Surprisingly, the calendar coordinator said to forget about an interview, they needed her the next day for an emergency job. Jennie was nervous but decided to accept the job anyway. Is Jennie truly ready to take a job? We will see how she does...
